learn by doing

We follow the Kenyan Competency based Curriculum (CBC) system of education designed by the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD). A curriculum that emphasizes the complex outcomes of a learning process (i.e. knowledge, skills and attitudes to be applied by learners) rather than mainly focusing on what learners are expected to learn about in terms of traditionally-defined subject content. Our curriculum is well balanced and relevant to our learners.

The partnership Pinehouse Schools has forged with parents has contributed significantly to making learning more interesting and effective for students.  The ethos/character of this caring school culture has supported the school management, teachers and parents in the quest for a high-quality education.

Beyond the Books

To prepare our children for the future, we need to provide them with the opportunities to develop the generic skills that are needed for them to become lifelong learners.  Apart from knowledge, our children need to develop their skills to acquire, construct and communicate knowledge.  They should also be able to collaborate with others, be ready to listen and be creative in their thinking.  Most of all, at this early stage of development, a positive view of themselves as learners is the most important benefit we can inculcate in our children.

COMPETENCY BASED CURRICULUM

Each classroom is a “learning lab” offering experiences that enable pupils to acquire and develop literacy, math skills and performing arts. Each member of the teaching staff is trained and equipped with relevant knowledge and skills, and committed to ongoing professional development.

There are seven key areas that are particularly important in cultivating the growth of your child’s educational development. These are:
